Sugar Loaf

The Sugarloaf or "Pão de Açúcar" applies in addition to the Christ stature as the symbol of Rio de Janeiro. It compound consists of two hills. The higher one is the Sugarloaf and the lower is the Urca Hill. From the top of the granite hill in nearly 450 meters you have a fantastic view of Rio de Janeiro! You can see the beaches of Copacabana, Leme, Praia Vermelha, Flamengo Ipanema and Leblon, the Guanabara Bay, the center, the famous 15km Niterói Bridge and the Statue of Christ. To enjoy this breathtaking view, you first have to take the traditional cable car. The ride is divided into two stages, each lasting 3 minutes. The first stage goes from Praia Vermelha to Morro da Urca, at an altitude of 220 meters. The second stage goes from Morro da Urca to Sugarloaf Mountain. Cable car speed varies from 21 to 31 kilometers per hour. The cable car is daily from 8 und 22 clock clock in operation.
