The Floresta da Tijuca (Tijuca Forest) within the hills of the city of Rio de Janeiro is considered to be the world's largest urban rainforest, covering some 32 km². It shares its name with the neighboring districts of Tijuca and Barra da Tijuca. At the top of the Floresta da Tijuca is Rio's leading tourist attraction, the Christ Statue and at the bottom, the Jardim Botânico, the Botanical Gardens. Another wonderful spot to visit is the lookout monument at Vista Chinesa. The Tijuca Forest is also an important recreational area with trails and reserved spaces for sports, cycling, running and mountaineering. Many of these trails are marked and signposted and allow for self-guided tours. For others, a guide is highly recommended .
